Hello and welcome back to Chat Chit. My name is James, and I will be your host for the upcoming year.

I want to begin by thanking our previous host Chris for all of his hard work on previous seasons of the podcast and for making the handover as smooth as possible. We wish him all the best for the future.

We are looking to start again at the beginning of the 2026 with some very exciting guests. More on that later.

As mentioned, my name is James and I first moved to York in 2014 as a student and have lived in the city on and off ever since.

I graduated with a PhD from the University of Hull in July 2024 and between May and November of 2025, I supported their twinning partnership with Mariupol State University in Ukraine, overseeing cultural exchange sessions led by the Ukrainian community on Humberside, many of whom arrived in the UK as refugees.

Alongside my research background in adult social care and community outreach, I have a very personal connection to the podcast and the work of Mind in general, as I sadly lost my dad in March 2025.

I therefore have recent experience of bereavement, and alongside hosting the podcast I will also be on my own mental health and self-discovery journey for which I hope you can join me.

With that in mind, Christmas can be a very isolating and difficult time for many people. Although York Mind will be closed from Christmas Eve until 2nd January, mind.org.uk have complied a helpful list of services which may be of use to you. These include:

  • Campaign Against Living Miserably [CALM] - Their phoneline and webchat are open from 5pm to midnight every day of the year, and can reached on 0800 58 58 58;
  • There’s also NHS 111 and select option 2 for mental health support;
  • Papyrus’ Hopeline is open 24/7 on 0800 068 4141;
  • Samaritans are open 24/7 and can be reached on 116 123, and lastly there’s;
  • Shout, a text service open 24/7 and you can find them on 85258.

We also have plenty of resources available on the Yormind website, including over 50 episodes of our podcast addressing a wide range of mental health related topics.

Returning to the podcast, we’ve got our first guests confirmed for the new year. They’ll be talking about disability rights, meditation, education, and Pride in Mind among many other things, and we can’t wait to tell you more in the coming weeks!

You can still find the podcast on the usual channels of BuzzSprout and Spotify, as well as the Yormind website. Thanks again for tuning in and I hope you can join us for season 4 of the Chat Chit podcast.
